Railroads have played an important part in Canadian history. A piece of infrastructure that has united Canadians and a country. Today, it ties all of Canada’s major cities together and to others across the continent. Thread Line proposes a fashion start-up network formed around this connective infrastructure.
Part atelier, part storefront, part bedroom, the Thread Line pods are meant to house all the activities of a fashion designer on the road. Mobility offers a lot of benefits to startups through increasing access to clients, events and collaborators. By connecting with a fashion-railroad network, innovative design hubs can start growing across North America.
Young designers are imagining and creating the world of the future. In Thread Line, I consider how these new ways of thought could be supported and sustained by the built environment. Architecture that is flexible and adaptable offers new opportunities for habitation that are yet to be explored.
